Aging Smart With Vitamins

The B family of vitamins consists of B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5, B6, and B12. Although each is chemically distinct, the B vitamins coexist in many of the same foods and often work together to bolster metabolism, enhance immune and nervous system function, maintain healthy skin and muscle tone, and promote cell growth and division. They may also relieve stress, depression, and cardiovascular disease. A deficiency in one B vitamin often means that intake of all B vitamins is low which is why B vitamins are most commonly supplemented in a multivitamin or B-complex formula.

I started taking the store brands like One-A-Day, Centrum etc., but then I learned that you can’t get all of the nutrition you need in one tablet. I started going with multivitamins that came in packets that had several tablets that you took everyday. I really felt the difference. I can tell I was getting more nutrients into my system.

Pick a day of personal significance. Many people pick New Years Day. This day has some significance to everyone because it is the beginning of a new calender year and many people pick this to start the year off on the right foot. Although it is no different from the last, it feels different. You don’t have to, nor should you, wait until the end of the year to quit. Pick something closer like a birthday, anniversary, or some other day special to you. Having this day will make your quit day seem more momentous and increase your chances of success.

Unfortunately, our bodies were not designed to last forever, but there are steps that we can take to preserve them for a longer period of time. After all, when you turn ninety, you just may still need those achy knees!
